Violinist Hyuna Kim was praised in a New York concert review as “a performer with refined and brilliant technique, a clear and luminous sound, a deep and wide range, and a passionate yet restrained playing style, possessing the finest artistry and virtues of a violinist.” At the age of ten, she became a notable figure in the music world after performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. At twelve, she went to the United States to study with Aaron Rosand, graduating from the Curtis Institute of Music. She later studied with Glenn Dicterow at The Juilliard School, where she completed both her master’s degree and Professional Studies program, and then earned her doctoral degree from the State University of New York.

In Korea, she won major prizes including the Grand Prize at the Ewha-Kyonghyang Competition and First Prize in the Hankook Ilbo Competition. Internationally, she was also a prize winner at the Tibor Varga International Competition in Switzerland, winner of the Philadelphia Orchestra audition, and winner of the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra audition, establishing her reputation for solid technique, outstanding artistry, and rich musicality.

She has appeared as soloist with many distinguished orchestras in Korea and abroad, including The Philadelphia Orchestra, the George Enescu Philharmonic, the Bulgarian National Philharmonic, the St. Petersburg Chamber Orchestra, the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Sejong Soloists, the KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Korean Symphony Orchestra, and the Seoul Baroque Ensemble. Through appearances at the Symphony Festival, the IBK Opening Anniversary Recital, and many solo and chamber concerts, she has been highly praised by critics and music lovers alike for her wide repertoire and uniquely clear tone.

She has given a recital at Carnegie Hall and has also presented successful performances at world-class venues including Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. She continues to perform actively in Korea, across Asia, Europe, and the United States.

She has served as jury member for the inaugural Ilona Feher International Violin Competition at the Budapest Festival in Hungary, the Postacchini International Competition in Italy, the Isang Yun International Competition, and the Seoul International Music Competition.
