
At the age of thirteen, Zhang Le won First Prize at the 1st China Violin Competition, and was soon praised by world-renowned musicians such as Yehudi Menuhin and Isaac Stern. James Levine described him as a new-generation Eastern musical gentleman.
He has received awards in many major international competitions, including the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium, the Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poland, and the Menuhin Violin Competition in the United Kingdom. He later won another gold prize at the Aspen Music Festival in the Americas, which also led to a full scholarship to The Juilliard School for further study.
He has served as Concertmaster of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Artistic Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and Concertmaster of the Central Opera House Orchestra under the Ministry of Culture. From 2009 to 2010, he was invited by the Asian Symphony Foundation to serve as Concertmaster of the Cross-Strait Philharmonic Orchestra on a touring program across both sides of the Taiwan Strait. In 2010, he was invited by the Asia-Pacific Symphony Foundation Orchestra to serve as Concertmaster of the Asian Philharmonic Orchestra and performed at the United Nations Hall in New York. From 2011 to 2012, he presented a nationwide solo recital tour of 33 concerts at Poly Theatres across China. In August 2015, he joined the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and in August 2016, he began teaching at the Shanghai Orchestra Academy. From 2023 to 2025, he has appeared as Guest Concertmaster at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in productions including Aida, Romeo and Juliet, and Un Ballo in Maschera.
In recent years, he has released numerous CDs and DVDs worldwide, including Joy in Music, Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D Major, Kreutzer 42 Etudes for Violin, Sibelius Violin Concerto in D Minor, Butterfly Love, Under the Bodhi Tree, Roses and Butterflies, Brahms Double Concerto for Violin and Cello, and Night · Shanghai.
